USB hard drives are the easiest way to transfer data from one place to another. They are portable, easy to transport, and do not require high maintenance. However, sometimes these hard drives get corrupted due to mechanical failure or human error, and they don’t show up in the operating system. USB hard drives get corrupted, viruses infect them, files are lost from the RAW partition, or maybe the USB port is broken or damaged. If the external hard drive is severely damaged, the user may need to compromise the data. Here are some of the best working methods you can use to recover data from the hard drive.

1. Change the USB port

Please check the USB port of your device, the device may not be able to recognize the USB port due to a mechanical error in the USB port. In such cases, switch off the operator panel and leave it for a few minutes. Then restart the computer and connect the USB hard drive. If this method doesn’t work, please change the USB port and connect it to other USB ports. Changing the USB port will make the hard drive appear on your computer.

2. Change the USB connection cable

If your USB is working fine, there may be a problem with the cable. A damaged connection cable or open connection cable does not work with the device. The best solution, in this case, is to replace or repair the USB cable. If the problem is still not resolved, look for other solutions.

3. Update the Windows driver on your PC

If the USB connection works fine, there may be a problem with your hard drive. Refresh your PC hard drive and it will appear. Follow these simple steps to upgrade your PC’s hard drive.

Hold Window + R at the same time and type devmgmt. MSC in the Run box and click OK.

Then click on the drive and right-click on the external USB drive.

Then select Properties and snap on the Driver tab. Click on the Update driver choice and the framework will consequently recuperate the hard drive and fix the issue.

4. Rename the external hard drive

Your external hard drive or USB flash drive may not have a drive name. You can identify it by opening Disk Manager

Right-click the “Start” menu or open the run window using the “Windows” and “R” keys and type diskmgmt.MSC. Identify it by the size of the specified disks.

Right click on the drive and click “Change letter and path…,” then click “Add” and assign a letter to your disk. It should now be recognized and visible in File Explorer and My Computer.

5. Use data recovery software

If the disk contains a file that the device does not support, or if the disk becomes RAW, it will not appear on the device. The hard drive may appear on the device, but the data on the hard drive is missing due to partition loss. To fix this problem, you need to focus on recovering the data first and then repairing the hard drive. There are many data recovery programs that can recover data from a damaged or virus infected hard drive, such as Stellarinfo Data Recovery. The software is a free data recovery tool available for Windows and Mac. It does not in any way recreate a corrupted partition, it only grants access to that partition so that data can be recovered (at least as long as those files are not corrupted). In fact, iBoysoft Data Recovery is content to detect all partitions, list the different recoverable files, and then recover them all.

6. Get professional help

If the external hard drive has troubleshooting errors, it will not show up on the device. The dead disk cannot be processed on disk; In such cases, you need to consult experts. Leave your hard drive alone and let the experts solve the problem and do the data recovery.

Conclusion

These are the best solutions when the hard drive is not showing up on the device. If the problem is still not resolved, the hard drive may be badly damaged and needs to be repaired by experts. If a warranty is available for this hard drive, request it.
